Hello my friend! Today I want to take you down into the engine room of this big old boat. There is certainly a lot of learning and work to do ahead of me before I go on a fishing expedition but it’s gonna happen! Any ready and willing participants?! Let me know in the comments where you’d want to see an excursion to! This is just part 1 of this boat renovation, I will be working through the entire boat restoring as much as I can!

  1. Hey Doc. I'd like to see your engine bay any day. Yep (I deserve a smack for that one)…Those are two very good diesels. I'd use Lucas Oil and a high mileage synthetic….Would you look at "Med Beds" please? I'd like your opinion. My acupuncturist swears I'll be one of the first disabled people to try them (C6 incomplete tetra-plegic, en-utero from amniocentesis)….One day my friends and I are going to go on a nice overlanding trip. I'd love for you to join us. Be well. –Mike M.

  2. What "BOAT" means……………..Break Out Another Thousand !!!!! Been there done that. That being said I still love boats. Have fun and good luck.

  3. Those R older type of the diesel engines, which means great reliability and low maintenance cost when U will take care of them.

This also means that in positive (over 0 deg. C) U can run on any flower oil which is way more powerful than diesel (cetane [like octane for gasoline] # 40 on US diesel gas station vs any flower oil is Cetane # 55-75) .

When engines R cold take a look to turbine air side (take of the compressed air tube and check for any oil leaks).

  4. Hope you have great bilge pumps and back up bilge pump with older boats, also replace all intake hoses if the engine is cooled by seawater. Zinc up all around to prevent corrosion

  5. You go girl !! Beautiful boat, you’re doing it the right way, I’ll be following to see how it comes out. I’d rather have a older boat than new, just something about them. Appreciate you sharingI’ll be watching more

  6. Seriously reconsider the lithium batteries. NOT great for the load an engine starter pulls, so stick to a marine deep cycle for those, but if you are wanting to depend on solar LiFePO is the way to go long term, expensive but worth it. and not nearly as heavy, keep them above the waterline if worried about the water issue.

  7. I've always been impressed with your ability to charge ahead and tackle tasks. Yes Yes I know it can get you into a bit a trouble on the other side of the coin.

  8. Put moisture barrier matt under every cushion. Its that weird entangled plastic springy mesh which let flow lot of air under your cushions and let all the moisture dry out. You can cut it to any template you want.

  9. @ 2:36, didn't look very impressed with the food and you got to goo right through thr process before you see the prices
Mold, hehehe, better get used to it, moist dim/dark area with little to no air movement, cool water warm air, boats are mold magnets. Lots of dead air sp;aces on a boat
Get use to the smell of vinigar because thats about the only thing that works.
Yes people have tried this and that but when you go to their boat a few months or years later you get that faint smell of vinigar, hehehe, so much for other things people try and promote, hehehe.
And mold resistant stuff, lovely story but mold can grow on almost any surface, don't believe that, hehehe, you'll see. Can be confirmed by looking at boats that were super cleaned befor the owners left for a fgew months to go to work. Come back to mold everywhere
Now that being said, a dehumidifier drained overboard and fans moving air through every nook and cranny can get rid of most mold. BUT,,, the bigest problem is how do you power a setup like that

  10. I admire how you approach all this with ease and smile as you talk about all this projects.

  11. I saw a couple of your camper videos, but didn't subscribe. I saw the boat video…and subscribed. LOL. My videos are almost all boat videos.

  12. Great video!! In a camper, mould will grow under any mattress if there is no airflow.
I see no airflow under the boat mattresses: consider added a breathing / spring layer (between wood and mattress) like they make for campers, to prevent a repeat.

  13. Hi. New viewer. “The Boat” needs a name. How about “Sea Jay” or “La Vagabold”.

  14. The bedding you can buy slates that go underneath to allow air around them , the Volvo engines are really good if been looked after can buy parts here in the UK a long way away though

  15. OZONE GENERATOR!!!! THEY KILL MOLD DEAD IN A BOAT ?!!! JUST EXIT FOR A COUPLE HOURS AFTER.
RUN 1 HR. I LIVE ON MY BOAT.

  16. You said you had a Survey done… did you also have a mechanical survey done? Also did you get a Sea trail and if so I hope there was a mechanic on board during the test.

  17. You need a AGM batteries! Lead acid should not be used on boats either.

another thing, if you're not familiar with engines past a simple oil change, turbocharged engines require oil for the turbo chargers as well.Otherwise, they will burn up and they will start a fire.

also, turbo maintenance is not something that's very standard. And that's something, not trying to judge you, but being an automotive technician for the last 10 years, it's something that you may not be ready for. I'm primarily making this observation because of you wanting to use lead acid batteries.

Please get someone who knows what they're doing. Because you could get yourself into a lot of trouble.

    The video is very interesting.

however, I would not trust areas in Central America with scuba diving equipment either.

and the reason why that place seems so attractive with all the amenities, is because the staff are getting paid s***.

Please open your mind up to the reality of the world, and not just the surface of things. In Mexico is not a place to go right now.

they specifically look for completely ignorant people who just look at the surface of things. This is just the way that Central America culture is.

the reason why it's like this, it's because long time ago back when the Spanish conquerors started colonizing, they force the indigenous peoples to be self resenting and look up to the Caucasian westerners. From there, the society grew to where there's a massive issue with colorism and anybody with whiter skin is usually considered to be superior. These issues are in effect even today. There are pureblood direct descent Spaniards who control certain parts of Mexico and other Central American countries.

the truth is, there's no political correctness, and so one of the reasons why they have set up a system to attract Caucasian people with money that are not from Spain, because they're still subconsciously fulfilling their desire to look up to white people, that has been ingrained in their culture, creating a sociopathic Society, at the same timethey know that the ignorance happy-go-lucky naive Caucasian people from the US or other parts of the world, don't understand this complex issue and how low quality everything actually is.

Your friend got the wool pulled over her eyes.also, if you don't spend more than one day truly letting go of everything so that you could see reality for what it is, you will never see the reality of these places. Seeing reality cherishes life.it's up to you to be able to manage your mind so that you can acknowledge existence that is different.

Otherwise, you're just ignorance and naive. Hence, your boat can catch fire.

Something happened on that boat. Diesel engines can still catch on fire, especially if you don't maintain them properly. Please get a professional.

  18. Mold is a Neverending task on a boat. Volvo makes great engines. Waterpumps are common parts. You can also have yours rebuilt, or rebuild it yourself. Keep up the good work. Blessings and Safe Travels.

  19. Hi Hannah, looks like you got yourself a good boat. I worked as a shipwright and mechanic on all types of boats. I am glad you have taken the approach to service and maintain your engines, those volvo engines are great if taken care of and used. Not sure where you are but in Washington state there are volvo folks who have all your parts and they are well priced, you can also find parts on ebay, you can use lithium batteries on your boat, there are many sailing channels on youtube you can watch to get great advice on lithium battery and solar setups. You will have so many great adventures on the water. Great project, Peace, love and fruit!

  20. Volvo diesel motors are good Motors they are just very expensive to maintain and service the cheapest to maintain or a Ford Lehman and Cummin

  21. How do you have so much free time to live on old yachts and whatnot? And are you still a practicing pharmacist??

  22. When I was in the Navy, Sunday was our time to air our bedding. It’s just part of the preventative maintenance process.

  23. very nice video. Hannah, id study diesel if i were you, since the vessel has diesel. i already know a few things about it myself. its a good idea you have to study it . what kind of a doctor are you Hannah?

  24. there is a engine museum in the northern German region of state capital Kiel named Maschinenmuseum Kiel-Wik has more than a century of mechanical engineering very interesting and informative I suggest you see this museum if you ever travel over to Germany
