Would you ever guess this cute little VW bug produces 517 horsepower at the wheels and screams like a Formula 1 race car? Nicole Johnson goes for a wild ride in the ultimate Sleeper Bug, a Subaru WRX-powered 1973 Volkswagen Super Beetle that you’d swear was bone stock. But that’s the whole point…

Designed, built and owned by OG13 King of the Hammers winner @John Reynolds

I have Kicker audio systems in my personal vehicles and I’m obsessed with them, thus their logo at the end of this video. We did not receive sponsorship or payment to create this, I just love listening to great tunes and telling others about them. Enjoy! https://www.kicker.com/

  1. I was a big Beetle guy back in the day. Over the years I had a 59, 63, 67, 68 and 72. During this time I was also racing in something called Formula Ford, which quickly taught you how terrifyingly dangerous those beautiful little cars actually were. They, and the structurally similar Porsches, had gobs of something called "oversteer". As the nose tucked into the corner the engine in the back wanted to become a pendulum. It swung out and wanted to pass the front – very hard to control especially in rain/snow. It's called "incipient spin" – and it often did just that. Given the layout of the chassis there was never a Beetle that left the factory that wasn't already overpowered. There were a lot of crashes over the decades due to this handling characteristic – many of them tragic. Given all that reality, though, I still wax nostalgic over my Bugs!

  2. Lol so funny the guys face 🤭😂😂🤣🤣😂mate she is so hot I couldn’t give a shit if she smashed my car in2 a tree .

  3. Badass bug, if only I could have had it in High School 1983! I remember some guys around town puttin' V6's in em and wasting V8's at Red lights.

  4. Reminds me of when I tried to teach a girl friend to ride a motorcycle. Never, ever again 😉

  5. This dude seems more scared of his car then she was. Not to mention he definitely did not like being a passenger in it. IDK I kinda felt like an asshole vibe coming from him. He doesnt seem like hes a very social person.

  6. Honestly my best moment of this video was 18.33 funny and scary all at the same time . Love it 👍😎

  7. I loved the respect you showed to this ammmmmmmazzing piece of engineering and how you held on when john gave it some beans class …

  8. 4 gears isn't really that difficult. i bought a 74 1303 S Beetle right-hand drive without having driven manual for 20 years and i managed not to drive it just fine on the streets of japan

  9. Someone from my neighborhood has the same build wrx turbo engine really nice light car

  10. The wastegates running to the peashooter exhaust is absolutely genius. This utterly redefines the term "sleeper".

  11. Cool build here. VW sleepers are nothing new. This one is quick & slick. When the pretty lady drives it … hmmmm….
Thought the owner was going to have a heart attack.

  12. Awesome!! Would be more awesome if you had the bug painted like Herbie the Love Bug!

  13. Interesting how different this engine sounds without an unequal length header. Not Subaru like at all
