With the rats proving reluctant to show themselves at night, we hit the farmyard in broad daylight to see if the rodents are on the move. And it seems that the rats here are keeping unusual hours, as Mat picks off a procession of scavenging scaly-tails in full sunlight.

There’s also a treat for those of you who like to hunt with night vision during the winter months. We’ve pulled together a roundup of some of our favourite shots taken with the Nite Sight night vision kit.

  1. Do any of you know if rats avoid areas where they know they are getting taken out by air guns?

Obviously they wouldn’t know what an air gun is, but does the fear of sudden death en mass and squalls of death scare off other rats?

I wonder because I popped a few in my backyard and it seems the rest adbandoned the property. No more footsteps in the walls or new droppings.

  2. Hello,
What I appreciate above all is the precision of your shots, but above all the speed of the line of sight. A target rat is a dead rat.
Thank you for this beautiful demonstration …👍

  3. Wait the pellets rise? So is basically the opposite of a bullet then?

  4. UK I imagine .177 is your Max air gun caliber. In PCP a .22 is a great tool for killing rats. Even my cheap break barrels are sufficient in .22 to take rats & rabbits.

  5. Great job Mat, hopefully you don't care about the dislikes from snowflakes who never had to work in their life and don't know where their food comes from. Pest control is important in farming and this is probably the best way after using dogs or mink.

  6. Sidenote: you mentioned starlings as protected birds in your location, here in the U.S. they're more than a pest, they invade native birds' nests and throw out the original occupants to take the nest over for themselves. It's always open season on starlings here.

  7. You have more mercy and feeling for the rats you kill than the 14 year olds in my city here in the states have for the elderly folks they carjack at gunpoint. Bravo, sir…
