This can be the #1 problem preventing Start Up on Riding Lawn Mower Tractor or No Start issues. Believe it or not, the fuel solenoid can be really problematic during failure and you can scratch all your hair off your head and don’t even know what is causing it. I myself have many problems with this and during the diagnostic can be confusing and sometimes it’s the last thing that you would think of. YES….. I have done it so many times and because of something so simple, you would not think of it or on top of your head since you are busy mowing your lawn.
We all have been there and done that and this solenoid can be time consuming during start up and prevent the lawn mower tractor from starting. I mean for something so simple… Why not just get rid of it or bypass it and go back to manual like they used to do. Sometimes LESS is MORE as they said and true to that.
EASY QUESTION: Can you Bypass a Fuel Shut off Solenoid?
— The short answer is YES! In order to bypass the fuel shut off solenoid simply cut the plunger off the solenoid with side cutters, and screw the solenoid back into the bottom of the carburetor.
EASY PREVENTION BACKFIRE TRICK: To prevent a back-fire in a hot muffler – engine. It’s really easy, all you have to do is idling the engine for a short time before shutting down, to allow the muffler to cool a little. Another easy way, you can shut off the main fuel shut-off valve and then idle it and let the gas run out of your carburetor.
NOTE: This by-pass would make things easier too during winter storage or off seasoned storage. You will have 2 options to do things. Either drain your bowl or run dry. You will be surprised how easy it is to do the bypass – something like this to your tractor and never have to worry about it or buy the part for it. As stated in the video, the OEM is from $60 – $95 and depends on certain models.
Give it a try if your Solenoid is bad and if you don’t like it, you can always put it back, right?
