A balanced flywheel with torque converter would do so much better
A lot of the energy is wasted when the bike reaches the flywheel speed and the remaining flywheel energy can't accelerate the bike any more. If there was a way to increase the gearing ratio only when the flywheel is going faster than the bike, the bike's wheels would have to reach an higher rpm to match the flywheel speed, thus less energy would remain wasted.
It's really not a flywheel. Flywheels have at least 80% of their mass in 10% of their outer diameter.
Install another chain tothe sprocket of the pedals so you can charge the KERS when you're coasting, instead of only when you are at a stop
I literally only ever heard of that KERS from GTA online, glad I found your channel which shows how it can be used in another way
It's useful in EV, but creates added weight in bicycle. Used in the new battery assisted bicycles with a 125 watt hub motor, this flywheel will help improve the starting, pickup speed and mileage. It will also extend the battery life significantly.

What about a second gear set to get more wheel speed out of the flywheel. Basically switching the gears around when trying to use the stored energy

Hey Tom! I was wondering how it would work if you took something like an EDF, battery, ESC, transmitter, and put it into a model rocket body where the engine was at the top and most of the weight was too, making it more top heavy. The EDF would be blowing through a tube that would go to the end, near the fins, and would make far more thrust than the weight of the rocket. You could then see how much altitude you could gain, but here is the real kicker. The ESC you buy must have have the ability to run in reverse, so that when the rocket is free falling, you can start up the EDF in reverse and possibly allow it to slowly descend.
Best way to charge it is to pedal down a hill on high gear

A bunch of stainless bolts on the far out of the flywheel might increase the ammount of energy the flywheel is able to carry by alot. 😉
What about flywheels, within the wheels? Imagine.. two larger flywheels

Can you revers the gear ratio so you get better return from the fly wheel add another disk break on the other side with different gear setup for energy return
With the connection just like an engine your pedals are the engine then to the flywheel and then pair with the wheel maybe work this better….. but cool idea
if you can't connect the pedals to the fly wheel immediately, you'd better stick around before you leave
