   I was trying to do this in 2009 to a 64 VW beetle settled on mega squirt 2 check out some of my vids. Gonna give it another go now after seeing all the speeduino stuff.

   The wild thing is I was thinking about doing exactly this today, or starting at least, working out if I could run a pump motor off an arduino. Then I thought, nah, someones probably done it already. Stumbled across this here. Wild.

   I am confused about what you are actually doing in this video. Are you just firing the ignition from the arduino or what?

   There is no capacitor from the coil (+) to the mower frame. The cold end of the coil secondary on most coils connects to coil (+) and if you don't have the capacitor it forces the spark current to go through the low voltage wiring loom to ground. Won't cause any damage but it will often cause any electronics to misbehave.
