In this video, I show you how I would wire an automotive turn signal, directional, blinker circuit for a car, truck, motorcycle, ATV, dirt bike, side by side, go cart, or whatever kind of vehicle needs a left and right turn signal. There are many ways to wire automotive style turn signals, but I prefer to wire them using two relays, because I feel like it is a safest method of wiring the circuit. Below is a list of the relays, the turn signal flasher, fuses, the 1157 bulbs and sockets, and the 3 way toggle switch I used to make the entire circuit work properly.

  1. I've done this exact set up on my car and it just blows the fuse instantly. What do you think could cause this? The flasher I have is different it's a (12v 21WX2 + 5W MAX. 47W) would this be the problem? I have joined my bulb wires to the car bulb wires at the back of the fuse board.

  2. Great video, thank you for the insight. You make things much easier for a lot of hobbyists. Hat off to you

  3. From the circuit, does it mean that the flasher is constantly "flashing" and drawing power even though the indicator switch is at the off position? Can the red wire of the flasher be wired to the both white wires on the switch instead so that it only turns on when the switch is flipped on?

  4. Does the flasher have to be for led lights if that’s what Type of light in using.

  5. Now I'd like to hook this up to an Arduino in order to control it via my phone for example

  6. Could you also instead put the flasher inline on the other fused lead going to the switch? I think it would work either way but was curious about your thoughts. Thanks and extremely helpful video πŸ‘

  7. Can some one help my??
My engine refuse to stop when flasher working ore head lights.
The engine wants to acelerate by him self.
    With key turned off.
I did change the back head light design to new'r year .
I first tough the bulb holders in the back cause that problem so I swaped them to old bulb holder .
For some reason my back side blinks bouth with brake light and position light turns on.
So thats where its confuseing why my engin self acelerate it is carbureted and it has 4 pin gm ignitiin module with induction triger .
    How to solve this problem?
By the way my baterry sufers for some reason hard to cold start that thing .
My starter cant turn my engin in the morning somthing draining the baterry.

  8. Any tips or tricks doing this on a motorcycle with a magneto??? Rather than the conventional alternator battery setup??

  9. Great explanation. But you can't use the white 2 wire on the bulb socket for brake lights, only for parking as that filament is dimmer in the bulb. Brake and turn signals must be brighter than parkin / tail lights. Unless you reversed the conection and your flasher is on the dim side. Now, how about 4 ways?

  10. Thanks for the video, I’m confused how the brake lights that use the same filament wire in.

  11. I'm working on a 1968 Volkswagen Beetle; I've had some issues with wiring. The lighting. I've the stock wiring harness in the car, and I'm also running the painless 6 switch panel along with it. So far, I've got the headlights and taillights to work with it. As far as the turn signal, that is where I'm having the issue. I have the stock turn signal switch and I haven't been able to get that to work due to it needing to be wired up with my stock headlight switch. Which is already wired up with my switch panel. I've tried two separate toggle switches for left/right turn signal and have had no luck. I also bought a universal turn signal switch and no luck with that. I have got power to it but no power to the bulb. Could this video be a better solution?
