I got my hands on a model engine I always wanted to build.
This engine is based on a generic DOHC 4 cylinder with over 350 parts.

After laying out all the parts I begin to assemble this engine, no gaskets or bearings are required for this kit, but I did grease all the friction surfaces so the engine wouldn’t bind.

  1. DIY Garage – An update on my prior comment that the cams are not on the correct side. They are calling the right side by looking at the front of the engine. Maybe that's the way they do it in China but in the U.S. the right side of the engine would be while viewing it from behind! I realized that error when I received and built mine a week ago.

  2. You didn’t torque anything lol. It looks like timing was off hahahah. No oil in the pan is gonna ruin that engine lol.

  3. why are the exhaust valves opening up when the cylinders go down instead up?

  4. @DIY Garage – You must have noticed that the cam lobes don't even contact the tappets – you can correct that by attaching the tappets with just 3 turns instead of tightening all the way down. That's what I did on mine and the valves all work properly and have a much more realistic action to them. I also bought some additional light grease and applied it liberally to all contact points. The engine runs both smoothly and quietly! You're welcome, and that will be $5.00 Lol

  5. If this guy can make this stuff just for fun why can't these car companies make a decent product

  6. The cams weren't actually pushing the valves, did something not get put in quite the right place?

  7. Loved it! not complaining…but I noticed that the valve lifters didn't seem to actually move up and down even tho I thought I saw springs on them. did they just get stuck? Maybe one of them was moving a bit at the end. that's one of the coolest movements so I was hoping to see them move more. I just might be this thing….were you happy with the quality over all?

  8. Probably a dumb question but what kind of engine is this? I can't really recognize the layout.
