This is a video on how to build a basic EMP generator. The device creates an electromagnetic pulse which disrupt small electronics and can even turn of phones. The EMP works by sending an electric current through a magnetic field this being the magnetic coated copper wire. Be very care if making one of these because the high voltage capacitor will deliver a very painful shock when coming in contact with you, also if the device is used for malicious purposes it is seen as illegal.

  1. I've seen a few answers to the question "what is the spark gap for".

For an electromagnetic field (EMF) to be produced, there needs to should be a change in magnitude of the current flowing through the wires to be more effective.

EDIT and CORRECTION: matixitam1 is correct, there is an EMF produced when there is a constant flow of current. However, it will only be a constant magnetic field, the same as if you were holding a magnet still next to your phone.
With a varying current signal, it will cause an electrical induction in the target which will probably cause an over-voltage of the target device.
    Hope this clears it up.

When the spark happens, it discharges the built up charge, resulting in a delta (a change) in magnitude, resulting in the EMF.

A better way to achieve this would be to convert the DC (from the battery) to an AC signal, resulting in a more efficient use of energy.

  2. What you call a high voltage converter is actually properly called an electrolytic capacitor.

  3. Be careful. If you use this repeatedly or for a longer time, you can actually damage the electronics. Also, make sure to avoid misusing it for malicious purposes. Consider this video for educational purposes only, do not use it for building the device for illegal activity.

  4. My grandpa told me he wish I can make and craft something, he's gonna miss his phone

  5. fps weapons – i have an emp that can off a phone,
    me – i have a hammer.

  6. Is this safe to this to use to shock my eyes brain and body there is illegally microchip implants all over my brain eyes and body and I am asking is this safe to shock the whole body brain and eyes
    Will it cause harm

  7. As an electrical engineer all I can do is shake my head. I was planning to address some of the misconceptions and mistaken terminology but I realize I don't even know where to begin. I clearly don't have time or space to teach magnetic induction or electromagnetic fields and electric power generation in this forum. The best I can do quickly is urge you to look up and read about them. Wikipedia has some very accessible article on these topics that will clarify some of this video.

  8. I am just imagining someone running emp currents across electricity grid around cities. I wonder if they can produce a huge magnetic field contains their target city and destroy all electrical device with induction currents.

  9. Generator or Jammer?
    There's a huge difference.
    Edit your title or something.
This device doesn't stop EMP, it creates one. Therefore, not an EMP jammer, it's an EMP generator.

The title leads me to believe, you had something that would stop an EMP, and hopefully I could scale it up for a potential corona mass ejection (CME) protection device. But it sounds like you have a rudimentary cell phone jammer.

  10. Hello smart people! I've got what might be a dumb question… Why use a battery instead of a super capacitor? My basic (probably wrong) understanding would suggest that a super capacitor would give you much more kick because of the discharge rate. Right? Wrong?
