Days Gone – Saw Mill Horde Walkthrough (Biggest Horde Battle)

You will encounter the Saw Mill Horde near the end of the main story in Days Gone. It is one of, if not the largest horde in the game that you will fight. This gameplay wlakthrough will show you how I beat it, there’s plenty of areas to climb so you can get away from the freakers.

  1. I took on this horde at around level 15, don't remember exactly but it was right after Boozer lost his arm and I needed to go to Iron Mike's farm for something, saw this nearby and though 'eh I haven't fought a horde in a while'. They just kept coming and coming… I thought it was glitched, somehow did it, got no completion marker, searched the whole place for like two in-game days for stragglers; finding none, went on my way being substantially more timid about engaging hordes knowing there had to be more World War Z groups. Then, when I got to the penultimate mission, the horde bar popped up so I figured they respawned, which was kind of exciting. I walked towards to sawmill expecting another war, full as fuck with all the splodies and best guns… ..aand got the mission complete immediately. While I don't necessarily regret taking them on early, it was a little disappointing in the end.

  2. When I chose not to fight this horde: “I’m not dumb enough to fight this horde.”

When I finally chose to fight this horde: “Welp, I’m dumb enough now.”

  3. When I had to do this mission I legit had no napalm bombs and stuff and only has combat shotgun as sniper and a 9mm and I wasted around 4 hours of my life carefully picking small parts of the horde leading them in an enclosed area and killing them. I wasted around 2k Camp points for ammo that day lol

  4. Once I got to Crater lake I could not find most of the horde there do I have to complete missions before they show up?

  5. Tbh sawmill isn’t even that hard just don’t run out of stamina

  6. Ok so what guns do i need, how do i get a napalm and i know if you keep going back to them to kill a handful at a time but does this apply to the same 1 game play or does it carry over between game plays

  7. I just beat the sawmill horde on survival ll and I got to say, "Fuck me sideways my nipples are hard!". Also, I forgot there was a ammo counter on the bottom left.

  8. I did them before even going south. I had that mission where you're tracking guy cutting human ears for bounties. I did it like this:
-leave bike by the first body you find in that mission
-go where the horde gatheres, throw some molotovs, place some traps, shoot some and run
-get on the bike, run to the bridge nearby
-horde's not following you, they're going back to their place
-go back and shoot them in the back, as many as you can.
    -run again
    -do it over and over

took me about 30 minutes, not even one guy smacked me
had to go back to the iron mike's camp one time, buy some ammo, horde doesn't respawn
to be sure no one's left, i turned on the speakers in the nero's to lure everybody into the nero. be careful, two breakers came at the same time.
here's the tricky part: even when you kill them all, you don't get the info and exp. However the mission autocompletes later in the game, when you're ordered to wipe that horde.

  9. and here was I trying to beat that horde the first moment i knew about it in the story xD fool of me

  10. Made me sad knowing that this is the biggest horde in game, i just went to found the militia and i already kill this horde with lvl 3 guns and some molotov and home granades 🙁 i was hoping for bigger fights in the next chapters

  11. lol I used the .50 sniper to bring the population down to 75% (i had max ammo capacity on my bike and even then i made several trips back to buy ammo), i reduced another 24% when they chased me via assault rifle and grenades, dynamites and molotovs… but that last 1% was like a full normal horde. I freaked out but I managed to outrun them and come back for them 😀

This game is so underrated, i wish they make a follow up (i know they wont)….

  12. Was doing the nero checkpoint thing. Forgot to take out the one speaker on the pole… Went into the compund and slept there until I gathered the courage to go out only to get my ass eaten up ?

  13. I bought this game not knowing about hordes and stumbled on one accidentally by saying “boy I wonder what’s in this cave?” And immediately got chased out by a massive swarm
