This video explains the working of a starter motor with relevant animations. The starter motor model shown here is a pre-engaged type starter motor. In this type, the pinion engages with the flywheel before the motor starts to spin and hence the name.

  1. The one-way clutch at the very end is the icing on the cake! It also explains why there WASN'T a horrifying screech when I recently got back into my idling car and habitually "turned on" the ignition! It's a '07 Ford Focus, so this "new" technology has been around for awhile apparently.

  2. Plz main an 12 class kar li hai ab main iti kar raha hu mere ko self demo la kam sikhna hai plz video banaiye kase car band hoto hai Kya kid karad se start nahi hoti hai plz banaiye plz maine abhi abhi suruaat ki hai plz plzzzzzzzzzzz????????❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

  3. Thanks for all the info guys, I got a 1988 ford Sierra and never realised how the engine starter works

  4. I have a 2012 Nissan Qashqai. How much damage will have been done by turning the ignition briefly while the engine is already running? Is it possible that no damage was done? It did make a sound while it was happening but not loud like in older cars (I hope/think).

  5. Wow. Been wrenching my own Vehicles forever and I never knew about that one way clutch. I just thought the spring retention and the curved shape of the gear released it. but that's a pretty cool thing invented by men of course!

  6. I got rid of my starter and put a recoil from my lawnmower on the crank.

  7. Very Helpful! I really liked the video!
I own a company of Intercooler Tester Kits and this is a great video to explain how the engine works. Congratulations
