This is the first in a series of weekly videos in which we document what it’s like to live with a robot lawnmower. This week, we learned that the Robomow RS612 needs more time (and a few more mows) to follow through with promises of a well-cut lawn.

  1. I had this since the begining of the RS model in US in 2011 and it still goes strong, and only thing I had to do was bury the wire-like you would a dog fence

  2. Was going to say you need to spray for weeds, but I don't think there is any grass left in that yard.

  3. Poor Robomow mowed for 40 minutes and had to go home and have a beer. Sounds like your average mowing gig.

  4. This review is the worst. I can't believe you work for CNET or that they would post this. I've owned this same mower for three years and it does a great job on DRY grass. If you'd set it up properly the built-in moisture sensor would have prevented the mower from even attempting a mow in these conditions. You also seem shocked that it doesn't mow in nice rows. It's obvious you didn't even read the manual to familiarize yourself with how the mower works.

  5. lawn mowers and yard work machines: always break

    automated homecare robots: always break

hey let's combine these two ideas!

  6. The wet condition of the yard plus all the weeds is a horrible environment for a robomower…BUT, I'm happy to see it tested to know its limits. I hope in your further review you focus on issues like object avoidance and scheduling. Looking forward to seeing more!

  7. Try adjusting the turf conditions in the mowers OS settings so it comes off of the pad when the lawn is dry enough to actually cut and not zip around the turf looking for dryer conditions. I think it went back to its base not because of power but because the lawn condition was not right enough for cutting.

  8. It has probably been said already. Testing that unit in wet, weedy grass is unfair to the machine. Mowing wet grass with a real gas mower is no fun either. Hopefully the professionals will test this thing on dry, healthy turf.

  9. I could pay to have my lawn mowed professionally for a year for the same price as this pos that cant even do a half assed job…

  10. The person responsible for setting up this review should be fired. It's as if zero brain power was used to set this up. Money cutting and lack of budget and reviewers by CNET is noticeable over the last couple of years.

  11. Girl, you need to call Scott's lawn service. Just look at all that weed 😀
